No, I don’t want your mum chasing me from one end of the state to the next, and you don't want her giving you grief for the next twenty years, so Yes I absolutely, positively do, shoot formal portraits at each & every wedding; let me have 15 minutes or an hour or even more if you wish and we'll make some great images.
I promise you it will be swift & painless who knows it might even be fun!
Actually it usually is a lot of fun.

Nope, I won't be sending a sidekick to shoot your wedding. You get me and only me.To my way of thinking wedding photography is more about straightforward photographic documentation rather than some dog & pony photographic sideshow, the less people in my entourage the less noticed I will be, so generally speaking Nope, I don't use an assistant .

Which brings us to the oft asked & dreaded;

"What's your philosophy on wedding photography?" question.

Good grief, are you serious?

"Wedding Photography Philosophy 101?" oops! guess I either skipped or slept through that class.

Seriously, who was the bright spark who came up with that one? end of philosophic rant!

On Second thoughts; here is my condensed philosophy on wedding photography, call me if you'd like a more detailed expanation.

  • Weddings are like "tribal gatherings"; two, sometimes more, tribes come together to witness and celebrate the birth of a new "tribe" as it were.
  • I'm a "tribal storyteller" so
  • I get my eye and brain into gear
  • Keep out of the way and
  • Find the images! So, there you go, photographic philosophy done, now can we get on with the pichtures and schtuff?

Equipment? Well it may look somewhat battle-scarred, however it sure does work and I have plenty of it!

Me? Well I'm not looking too battle-scarred yet and I do work my rear end off.

Sorry, no tie, kilt or tux however I do dress smartly and always have extra shirts, pants and shoes (polish too) in the car.

The accent? What accent? It's Scottish. Born and raised there, received my initial formal photographic education at Napier University in Edinburgh prior to immigrating.

Many photographers have asked me variations of the same question;

"How come you get all the great weddings with all those great people & locations with all the great images?"

My response is always the same;

"The images are there at each and every wedding, you just have to look & see".

“I will find the images at your wedding”, it’s my personal challenge and I still get a solid "thwump" in my gut capturing them.
